Decide what you are sharing, and what you are allowed to
There are two collections. The guest photos are yours to share as you like. The professional photos are licensed to you under the photographer's contract, which usually allows personal sharing and often forbids editing, cropping out watermarks or commercial use. Read the contract before forwarding a gallery link, and credit the photographer when you post.
Decide the download rule for each collection before you share the link. Full-quality downloads make guests happy and make it harder to keep any photo private; view-only keeps control and creates a stream of requests for files. Most couples land on downloads for the guest collection and a curated, downloadable selection from the professional set.
The channels that work
The photographer's online gallery is built for this: a link, optional PIN, per-photo downloads and print ordering. Use it for the professional selection and do not re-upload those files anywhere else.
For the guest collection, the private gallery guests uploaded to is the natural home. In Capture the same link keeps working after the wedding: guests browse and, when the host allows it, download individual originals, while the couple exports the entire collection as a ZIP of originals. A cloud album is the fallback if you collected photos by hand, with the quality and account limits covered in the guides below.
Thank-you cards with a QR code to the gallery are a nice touch for older relatives who will not click a link in a message. Print the same code you used on the tables so nothing new needs testing.
Timing
Send the guest collection early, within two weeks, while people still want to look. Include the same link as the upload destination so late photos keep arriving, and give a closing date so the collection can be finalised and exported.
Professional galleries typically arrive four to twelve weeks after the wedding; the contract states the deadline. Share a selection rather than the full gallery: a few hundred curated images get looked at, two thousand do not.
Privacy after the fact
Before sharing widely, remove photos guests would not want circulated, and be careful with children who are not yours. Keep the collection behind a link rather than a public post, and remember that anything downloadable can be re-shared.
